Backup internet for Welsh businesses that cannot afford downtime
Card payments, VoIP calls and cloud software all depend on the connection staying up. 4G failover is the standard answer for most businesses; a second-supplier line or Starlink covers the sites where even a short outage is genuinely expensive.
Sized to what actually goes down when the line drops
Not every business needs the same level of backup. A shop that loses card payments for an afternoon loses real trade. A professional office that misses a few emails for ten minutes barely notices. We size the backup to the actual cost of downtime at your site.
What backup internet protects
Card payments and EPOS, VoIP calls, cloud accounting and booking systems, and remote access are the things that typically matter most when a main line drops. We ask what genuinely needs to stay up rather than defaulting to a generic answer.
4G failover: the standard answer
A 4G SIM in the router takes over automatically the moment the main line drops. This covers the large majority of businesses at a sensible cost, and is the default we recommend unless there is a specific reason it will not be enough.
When 4G failover is not enough
For sites where mobile signal is weak, or where even a brief outage is expensive, a second-supplier fixed line or Starlink gives genuinely independent backup rather than relying on mobile infrastructure that could, in theory, be affected by the same incident as the main line.
- Automatic 4G failover, live the moment the main line drops
- VoIP call prioritisation over the backup connection
- Second-supplier line or Starlink for genuinely critical sites
- Outage monitoring so we often know before you call
- Sized to the actual cost of downtime at your site, not a generic template
What typically needs backup
- Card payments and EPOS systems
- VoIP phone lines
- Cloud accounting, booking and stock systems
- Remote access for staff working off-site

What businesses ask about backup connectivity
How does automatic failover actually work?
A 4G SIM sits in the router alongside your main line. If the main connection drops, the router switches to the SIM automatically, no one needs to notice or intervene for the switch itself to happen.
Will staff or customers notice when it switches over?
Usually not for browsing and cloud software. Card payments and VoIP calls are the two things most likely to briefly notice a handover, which is why we test failover on the specific systems that matter to you rather than assuming it will just work.
Is 4G failover enough, or do we need a second physical line?
For most businesses, 4G failover covers the realistic risk at a fraction of the cost of a second line. For sites where even a few minutes of downtime is expensive, either a second-supplier line or Starlink as a genuinely independent backup makes sense.
Can backup internet cover our VoIP phones as well as browsing?
Yes. We can prioritise VoIP traffic over the failover connection so calls keep working, not just general internet access.
Do you monitor for outages, or do we have to notice ourselves?
We can set up monitoring that alerts us when a site fails over, so in many cases we are already aware and looking into the main line fault before you have had to call us.
Tell us what cannot afford to go down.
Card payments, phones, cloud systems, whatever matters most. We will come back with a backup connectivity plan.
